REST IN DESIGN: HOTEL: HOTEL ROOM

A LUXURY HOTEL THAT EXPLORES THE CONCEPT OF TRADING INBRISTOL DURING THE 19TH CENTURY, PROVIDING ACCOMMODATION FOR LEISURE AND CULTURE TOURISTS.

The hotel room features several zones that enhance the journey through the room. These include a curved wall and shelving unit, a seating and dressing area, a wardrobe, a combined bed and desk unit, and a dining area. The bathroom is placed behind two curved walls, and next to it features a bath that sits on a raised platform.

Influenced by the grain of olive wood, the hotel room features curved interior walls designed to enhance the guest’s user experience as they move through the space. The views are heightened by the application of built in platforms below the windows, creating different levels throughout the room.

The colour and texture of the materials demonstrated in the rooms are aesthetically pleasing; they provide a multi-sensory experience for the guests. The material choices are based on the historic connection between trade materials and the Arnolfini Portrait, which include olive wood, copper, cotton velvet, and wool. I have also applied several other luxurious materials, such as oak, slate, and marble.
